Hi guys,

Not sure if anyone else shares my perspective on walking, but generally I find that the stages of the Camino that I have enjoyed the most have been the ones with the most climbing, and I can actually cover greater distances on those stages than on the longer flat stages on the Camino. Crossing over Cruz de Ferro and of course the climb up to O Cebreiro are both great (I started from Leon...so haven't crossed from SJPP to Roncesvalles...yet). I do find that other people tend to be quite different though...and some people seem to roll downhill, while I'm struggling to check footing and feeling it through my knees.

So, a simple question, do you prefer the climbs, downhill or generally flat terrain for walking?

I believe that I make the best time uphill and the slowest progress downhill. I do enjoy the climbs but it is on the flat sections that I get in the groove and the miles fly by as I pray, think, contemplate, and build new friendships.

I prefer climbing (or my body does), downhill hurts more, but worse for me is long distances on the flat. It's on the long flat bits I seem to get injuries.

Saying that, I love it all!

I prefer undulating, slightly up and down, with flat bits. The steep ascents and descents I can live without. Then again, my knees are knackered, so I am slightly biased. The stretch on the C/F from Pamplona to Astorga rates as my favorite.

Galicia is gobsmacking beautiful...but oh those hills...

I'm definitely better on the uphill. Other people walk faster than me on the flat, but give me a hill and I am in my element - as long as it isn't to cold outside, then asthma kicks in and the only thing to do is go inside and drink hot beverages

Nobody liking the downhill though? Y'all must have knees like mine... :) Even when I used to go jogging with my old man, he'd tear away from me on the downhill, but I'd be catching up when we started those inclines!

Or all of the above, though I do find some downhills troubling^^.

I have several days a week at work where I'd much rather be doing a downhill stage all day too! :)

I am wondering how you disconnect, in part, from the world. I have a couple of reasons that I need to be accessible but, I don't want to be constantly connected on this journey. Ideas?
I struggle with social anxiety and I was wandering if anybody with the same issue had a positive experience on the Camino walking alone. I saw lots of posts and videos people talking about forming...
