My training regimen consisted of switching over to Spanish reds about six months before we walked the camino last Sept. Worked wonderfully

Good luck with the recovery. Before my last Camino I injured my ankle also and it was touch and go if I could do the Camino. I even delayed my trip for 3 weeks to allow extra healing. But it all worked out well. After a week of walking I was totally back to normal. Think of a positive result and work towards it. Buen Camino.

Patience, grasshopper! Consider this the commencement of your Healing Camino - get an accurate diagnosis of your injury (this is sooo important, Sports doctors are good value here, they understand your goal and your frustration), see a physio as they can assist with keeping you fit while you recover, water exercises are excellent as they can work around injured areas as can modalities such as Pilates.

Keep a positive attitude this too shall pass. I'm 7 weeks into rehabilitation post 8½ weeks non weight-bearing in a moon boot for a navicular fracture and dealing with residual issues from all this one by one. Progress is too slow for me but gradual and continuing. Done correctly I'll be back stronger than ever.

You have my empathy for your injury and best wishes for your recovery and a wonderful Camino to follow.

Oh dear, I always ignore my stomach muscles - guess I consider this "warned."
I was very surprised it was quite painfull as it was always just below my sternum I think what seemed to help was simply stopping for a stretch. I never mentioned it to anyone but I wonder if anyone has the issue. Kind of like getting a Charlie horse in your leg at night. That is a term for those not familiar just a bad knot in your Muscle.

Been on Spanish reds for some years now -probably goes some way to explain the slip on the stairs! ;)

I injured both of my ankles on the Camino and find the Aso quick lace ankle brace great for healing and prevention of further injury. I'll be using them on my next walk. Available on eBay.

If your balance could be better (falling suggests so) you would benefit from walking poles, take them along.

I hope you recover in time for your camino.
You must alternate the red with the white to get the best camino experience.

Plenty of time to heal. Remember, sprains and strains take longer to heal than fractures. Limit use of ankle. Ace wrap it or provide some sort of stability like a horse shoe splint when walking. See your doctor if you havent. Buen Camino
