I’m relieved to discover that it’s not what I had first thought: advice on fly-tipping, a practice all too common in rural Ireland.

We never know whether to tip or not and would usually forget when we're on home territory - in the UK. Although, having said that, we have a granddaughter who works at weekends in a restaurant and says that she loves it when she's given a tip (the Japanese are always overly generous) as it's usually more than what she earns. Minimum wage for young adults here is divisive anyway. So these days, if we're served by someone who is obviously quite young we always leave a tip. Never sure of the etiquette, when we're on our excursions in France and Spain, we always leave a tip after a visit to a café. If only because we're always made to feel welcome and our occasion becomes yet another delightful experience.
