New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
I am starting from St. Jean Pied de Port on 6 June and have the same question. It is a case of "Qu'est sera, sera!" The weather is horrible right now with rain every day but that's not going to stop the overseas pilgrims from beginning their treks.

Well according to my super-duper spreadsheet you guys might just have missed the spring peak of SJPP starts, which happened last year in mid-May. Numbers die down a bit over the summer then increase again in September. It will still be busy but not as busy as if you'd started a few weeks before. As you get towards the end of your Caminos (beyond Astorga) you'll move into a different pattern of busy-ness, where numbers are at their highest during mid-summer, but fear not! You'll be too EARLY for that peak, which happens in August.

All this is based on models of last year's data, so don't take it as gospel. But do take your sun hats. Buen Camino!

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
Another super-duper thing is happening with the weather. I don't want to jinx thing by saying anything because the forecast is for plenty of rain from 31 May to 3 June, but then suddenly they are predicitng a change in the pattern with a low probability of rain at the end of the week through the weekend and temperatures reaching the 20's. I couldn't ask for better walking conditions and it would be a welcome change after enduring nearly 2 weeks of rain. I got a nice 3 hour practice walk on Saturday morning but by noon it's threatening rain again.

Just love your work but for some reason the link takes me to a thread on the Portuguese Camino, although the link is labelled "when-are-the-busy-periods" etc.

That's odd, Kanga. I'm on a different laptop now so all manner of strange things are happening.

Kanga,
I'm glad it's not just me. Links quite regularly take me on a bit of a merry go round.
I tried that one earlier and it took me to a lengthy piece of information related to camino Portuguese dated 2005.

Ditto and the duplicate post problems. yahoo recommended this morning to drop Internet Explorer 8 and switch to Firefox as my browser, I have to admit the Forum is responding much better today after I did that.

The sacrificial goat looks an attractive option. Can't imagine NASA, the CIA, FBI, Cyber Daddy or anyone else is interested.

I'm curious, how would you rate a July 3 start from St Jean in terms of the likely crowds long the way? I know from previous threads that apparently it is busier in St Jean in May and August, but less so in June and July, which isn't to say 'quiet', merely 'less busy'!

Hi Mark
According to my estimates from last year there was a slight increase in SJPP starts around the start of July, but nowhere near the mid-May peak. You're looking at around 165% of the annual average figure compared with 235% at its peak. Once you get towards the end it will be very busy. You're just a week or so behind the one annual peak on that stretch (about 250% of annual average).
It will be great. Buen Camino!

Sounds good to me. I'll be starting alone, so it looks like I won't be short of company! ;-)
