How much will it cost me to buy a sim card for 30-ish days in Spain, please?
I'm wondering if I should bother with the expense or if wifi is widely available along the Camino.
I need to know in the next few days, please, as I start the Camino Sept. 24.

Thanks kindly.

Vodaphone had one with international calls good for 30 days for 15€ I think. Just google the different suppliers. This being said WIFI is now available in most albergues, just look it ip,on the Eroski site for each albergue, as well as is bars where it'll either be open or they will give you a password some refer in spain as the 'salchichon', the sausage, due to its length

Thanks! I should add that I don't want a sim card so much for actual phone calls (am thinking will get Skype for that) but more for email, research and other data usage (Facebook ).

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
Hello!
I was able to connect to wifi almost every night. If you are not going to be making phone calls, I would not get a sim card. Also, if you have an iphone, you can imessege people that also have iphones. Imessege works through wifi.

Buen Camino :)

If you want to be able to use your device like you would at home and have full capability, then a prepaid SIM card with data is your best bet.
The Vodafone Tourist SIM is €15 and includes 1GB of data and 60 international minutes and resets itself after 30 days provided you add another €15 credit.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Last fall I bought one similar, and was disappointed that it didn't have text messaging, as far as I could tell. Would one have to use WhatsApp, for example?

You are being very patient and helpful, @Bajaracer ! Thanks.

I believe WhatsApp runs off of a data or wifi connection.
For text messaging for the SIM card, add another €10-15 credit on the SIM card as needed, if you need more voice minutes, add more €'s as well.

WhatsApp does run off data or wifi. (Just to be sure, I tested it in airplane mode this weekend just to be sure.)

Hi Lynda, I'm in my 11th day on Camino Frances by bike and very happy that I bought a Vodafone SIM card in Pamplona. You have three plans available: 10, 15 and 20 euros. I bought the 20 euro card which allows 100 min calls (national or international), 100 free SMS and 1.6 GB of data. You can recharge if you need.

For me it's been very helpful specially when using Google Maps to enter/leave big cities like Pamplona, Burgos, León. Altough smartphones don't necessarilly needs a sim card to have gps functionalities, it gives you a more accurate position when you have one.

Hope it helps.

Buen camino!
Julio

I'm assuming you can't buy the Spain Vodaphone SIM card in SJPP. Where is the first place you can get one once you leave?

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
The first sure place would be Pamplona; however you might find them in one of the small towns after you cross into Spain ie Burguete or Zibiri.
