Booking Ahead in July

Time of past OR future Camino

I am walking from Leon in July and I know it's a busy time to go. My daughter and I are planning to stay in a mixture of twin rooms and dormitories. I am planning on booking some rooms in advance- my question is- should I plan to do this in the more crowded portion after Sarria? I'd also like any hints for getting beds without reservations. I think our plan is to book a private room every 3rd or 4th day. So many people talk about crowds of summer, so I am trying to be preemptive. But regardless of crowds, heat, etc...I am so excited for my Camino.

Thanks

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Many times you can get reservations the day before. If you book rooms now, you are locking in the distance you MUST cover each day, and that can be a bad idea. I have found booking.com excellent for finding rates and booking beds.

I start making reservations in November for May through September.
What I can tell you is that though you may be able to book a few days before, in my experience, rooms that are €30-€45 at the beginning of the year can go up 100% and even 200% by the time March comes around. If it were me, I would book Leon and Astorga, and for that short Sarria to Santiago section, I would book every stop now. Unless you have deep pockets.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-

Though I rather like the municipal in Astorga. . .

I'm a believer in booking ahead and like falcon.269 said, Booking.com is the website to use. Yes, you are locking yourself into a specific daily distance but most walkers tend to follow the stages in Brierly's book anyhow and I have never found it to be a restriction. In fact, it affords one the comfort of knowing that there is accommodation awaiting for you at the end of the walk.
