Starting Camino Frances May 29th

Hi all, I have now been reading the forum for a couple of months and collected information. I am starting to get giddy about my May 29th start.

I am a 35 years old/young woman in poor shape, and I managed to fall down some stone steps about a week ago, so no last minute training for me... Crazy bruised with a ankle injury. Without the injury I am able to easy walk 8-9 km in 1,5-2 hours so I hope that I can split up the day into stages - start early and get around 18 km done in a day... Maybe to ambitious but that is where my thoughts are right now. And I intend to try to take things as they come, but being a controll freak I need an approximate idea of what I will be doing.

This is my itinerary:

29. mai St. Jean Pied de Port – Roncesvalles 14 km - Shuttle Saint Jean Pied de Port to Vierge d'Orisson
30. mai Roncesvalles – Zubiri 21,4 km
31. mai Zubiri – Trinidad de Arre 17 km
1. juni Trinidad de Arre – Pamplona – Zariquiegui 15 km
2. juni Zariquiequi – Puenta la Reina - Mañeru 17,7 km
3. juni Maneru – Estella - Ayegui 18,6 km
4. juni Aqyegui - Los Arcos 19,5 km
5. juni Los Arcos – Viana 18 km
6. juni Viana – Logrono – Navarrete 22 km

I then plan to travel back to Logrono, stay there for a day and than leave for Madrid and my flight home May 8th.

Any immediate thoughts? Or suggestions? I really appreciate the knowledge/experience among you all.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
enjoy it all

Hi, listen to your body and you will be fine.
Wish you a wonderful journey and a Buen Camino, Peter

Hi @milsub, you're right to rest your ankle - I hope that it gets better soon.

Your itinerary looks very well balanced. Are you going to stay in Navarette, or go straight back to Logrono? Naverette is a nice little place and worth a stop.

Good luck and Buen Camino.

Thanks Nuala! The idea was to stop and spend the night in Navarette and then back to Logrono the day after. Spend June 7th in Logrono and take early morning bus to Madrid on the 8th to get to the airport well in time for my evening flight.

That sounds perfect @milsub. It's a very quick bus ride back to Logrono (my husband took this bus in the opposite direction in 2013). Hope everything goes well for you - not long now!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Hi , I am doing a similar first Camino like you. I have only booked my first night at the Colegiata in Roncesvalles, then I shall try to find a bed every night. Have you been able to book in advance?? I rung a few allergies and was told they did not take prior reservations. Any thoughts?
Kind regards

Luis

I am not booking anything ahead. I hope that being flexible and staying in between main cities will be enough to circumvent the bed race.

Very wise, thanks for the thoughts.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Than you all for your replies. I am giddy with anticipation ☺

My feet/legs I healing so I hope to be ready for walking!

Friday can't come fast enough. I wish I did not have a whole work week before I leave.

I weighed my pack today - with a couple of minor things missing (evening dress and printed copies of plain tickets and train reservations) it weighs 5,8kg... It is so light that I am sure I have forgotten something. I just have to remind myself I can buy stuff if I find out I am missing something. Better that than bringing to much :)

Exactly! You can buy it there. And you'll have water and snacks which will bring the weight up. I'm excited for you!!!

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Welcome to the forum.
We've all done it but I've now learnt to check if the thread is current. This is from 2016.
Yeah this had me confused too haha. I was all enthoushiastic seeing this on the frontpage.
I’m starting the 29th of may myself. So was stoked to see someone here starting then aswell.

Missed it by 5 years

Visit Bar Soriano and Bar Jubera in Logrono....they‘re in the old pinchos area of town.....best two pinchos/tapas places on the Camino. The first specialises in patatas bravas and the second mushrooms......sounds simple but believe me, food for the gods !

Nice, thanks!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Nice to see a thread of mine resurface! I sat myself on Friday and reminisced on the five year anniversary of my first Camino. Little did I know how much it would impact my life and how much I would be looking forward to it again.
