Backpack Storage on August 9th

We are a blink and a week out from beginning our walk as a family - My husband and I and our 5 "kids" (ages 21, 19, 16, 15, & 14). We will begin in Astorga on July 28 and plan to arrive in Santiago on August 9th. Our hope is to arrive in time for the Pilgrims Mass at noon.

Likely we will not arrive all that early, and my question is what to do with our packs? We do have reservations at Albergue De Peregrinos del Final del Camino, but it is not near the cathedral and does not open unil 11:30. Is there a quick and easy option for us?

Many thanks!
-Diane

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
There is luggage storage everywhere in Santiago ;-) Correos, pilgrims house, pilgrims office, several private companies etc. Just look out for the sign 'consigna' (luggage storage) and you will be fine. Buen Camino, SY

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hi Diane,
Alas, as August 9 is a Wednesday we'll be back to being closed on Wednesdays (after being open on Wednesdays all of July). I'd try the Correos office or the Pilgrim's Office, the Campus Estrellae storefront on Plaza Quintana (https://www.oficinaperegrinocaminosantiago.com/consigna), or the Pilgrim storefront on Rua Nova (https://www.pilgrim.es/servicios/).

Buen Camino to your entire crew!

Bummer! We will try to stop by on Thursday before we bus to the coast then! :) I'm looking forward to meeting you!

And if all else fails, you can always leave your backpacks at my place (5-10min after cathedral, direction Finisterre). Buen Camino, SY

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
The Pilgrim Office has a consigna @ €2 per day. Ask the security guard or a volunteer. We wear light blue t-shirts.

Just to the right of the Cathedral entrance, on the corner, is Campus Stellae, a combination souvenir shop and consigna operated by local academic faculty on their summer break, also @ €2 per day. They also carry a nice assortment of "collectibles."

The correos offers the same service, both at the branch adjacent to the pilgrim office and at the main post office on Rua Franco.

These three places would be my first recommendation if the Pilgrim House is not at option.

Finally, if you are not IN the Cathedral by 11:30, forget about it. The crowds arrive early. I recommend getting on the entry line for the noon Mass by about 11:00. FYI, the line extends directly in front of the Campus Stellae consigna.

I hope this helps.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.
