Christmas Camino

Hola Pilgrims

Well it looks like the Camino is calling me again!

I walked the Camino Frances in May 2011. I had an amazing time and met fantastic people from all walks of life and walked and sometimes limped through such beautiful countryside.

I planning on walking the last 200KM or so over the Christmas holidays, nothing confirmed yet as I have a lot of research to do as Winter walking will be much different than spring\summer.

From what I have read from other Pilgrims, finding Albergues that are open can be an issue and of course where will I find a turkey dinner on Christmas Day???

I would be grateful if anyone as any advice for walking at this time of year.

Buen Camino

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hola

I think that this thread is a must for you:

el-camino-frances/topic9509.html

The information and examples are all still relevant. You need careful planning as you move forward especially finding out which albergues are open ahead - and in my experience double checking that they will be open when you arrive. One last thing to add to all of the advice on the thread - make sure you have a good "emergency budget" to call a taxi or book into an hotel or hostal if needs be.

But above all - it can be done, some of us have walked in this period and it is truly magical...for an advance taste of Christmas on camino:

Please let us know how you get on.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Thank you John for the great advice and pointing me to the thread.

Looking forward to the reduced numbers that time of year. I had several close calls last year for finding accommodation. Due to time restraints I had to walk a large number of Kms each day so I didn't reach my destination until evening time. One night I ended up sleeping above a pizza shop in Larrasoana

This year it will be at a much slower pace .
