We would like to make a reservation at Refuge Orisson for the 5th of September. I have emailed twice and called and left a message with no response. Does anyone have any ideas how to make a reservation with them? Thanks for any help.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

String bean,
As much as Refuge Orisson is a good place to overnight, they are notoriously slow in replying to emails. This being the start of the "high season", they will be very busy indeed, especially so with emails and folks passing through I'm afraid.

Many people before you have had the same concern, and have changed their plans.

I have no evidence of this, but some have suggested that when they full they don't bother replying.

Wish I could offer a better and more helpful reply, and I hope I am not being unfair to them.

Buen (getting a reply) Camino

Worst case you could do what I've seen advised by others...walk up and taxi back to SJPP. Then in the AM, taxi back up to Orrison and walk over the pass. That way if your compulsive about some things (like me!!) you will have walked the whole pass but just not straight thru. Plus, as the first 8 are the toughest (at least for a flatlander like myself) you could even do with out a pack!! Good luck and Buen Camino!

I have not had problems with enquiries to their email address. I just booked again here for August 21. Initial enquiry and booking response were both a day or two. Maybe try again.

Ditto to all the others. I took me a number of emails before I was able to get a confirmation -- and I did that in the off season. Be patient and keep trying - unfortunately, there are not a lot of options, other than perhaps one -- I cannot recall the name, but there is a alburge before you reach Orisson, you might want to look into that. Have a great adventure

We are booked for the 6th Sept and I know they are full. They also have another place 500m before which is also full. We booked in March so I would say at this late stage they are definitely full. Buen Camino

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
There could be space at last minute due to cancellations.

I tried to book with them on the 5 September and they were already full and that was about 5 weeks ago. They referred me to Gite Anton and they will pick us up from Orisson and return us there the next day
compostelle@gite-antton.fr
They will provide dinner, bed and breakfast plus lunch the next day if you want
Perhaps we will meet on the way

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Keep trying but be polite sometimes it rakes a few goes.

....does anyone have any idea just how far ahead of Orisson the 'infamous gateway' is...the one that leads on to the mountain proper ....?...... many thanks!!!

They are totally booked! I tried that date at least 6 weeks ago! Full! Go Valcarlos instead!

I was able to book for the 7th in the Kayola gite that is down the road. Still wondering if I should do that or Valcarlos.

Sarah you may have to wait until you get there to decide. The pilgrams office will advise whether Napolean route is open and what weather is like. Napolean route is harder but you will be rewarded with beautiful views if it is not to misty. Even though this route is harder it is still quite manageable especially if staying overnight on the mountain. If you do decide on Valcarlos make sure you cancel the booking in kayla as there will be another pilgram in need of a bed. Buen Camino

I requested an early October date last week and was told that I should contact them in Sept. as they were not sure whether they would be open in early Oct.? If we can not get a reservation we will use the shuttle service which has its advantages. We would then walk as far as the Marian Statue and be picked up abt 2:30pm at approx. return around 9am the next day to 1050meters leaving only a 400 meter climb the second day and then the down hill. So we will go with the flow! Whatever is meant to be.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

That's weird, I booked 3rd October at orisson back in early February with no hassle at all.

I initially found Refuge Orisson very unresponsive (between language and time zones). However, I saw a new phone number was listed on their web site: 33 6 86 99 82 03 A very responsive young lady answered the phone immediately and were able to successfully communicate that reservations were received. I placed the call around 1 PM their time.

Borda is the name of the other Albergue. I've heard it is quite good and they are responsive to queries.

You could go all the way, weather permitting, to Roncesvalles, if you're a strong walker. It's further along the path and will take all day but quite doable and usually there's plenty of accommodation there.

Thank you for your kind comments. As a 66 year old widow on my first mountain hike, I thought it was advisable to break the journey into two parts. As noted in an earlier strand, the SOP of this Refuge Orisson is to take half the charge on making the reservation and paying the rest upon arrival. That procedure is not clearly evident when making the reservation.

Buon Camino!
