Ditch Pigs 2023: La Rioja!

Rebekah Scott

Camino Busybody
Time of past OR future Camino
Many, various, and continuing.
The 2023 Ditch Pigs Camino Cleanup is LaRioja-bound this year, departing Estella 27 Nov. and rolling on to Sto. Domingo de la Calzada over four days, leaving a litter-free Camino trail in its wake. We reached the Magic Number of volunteers (six) early this year, so no active recruiting was done. But now one of us dropped out! There is room for ONE MORE volunteer, if you're around, you are fit and flexible and not overly fastidious, here's your chance! Room and board and trash-collecting gear is covered by our generous donors, but you have to get yourself to and from the start and ending point, bring your sleeping bag and clothes, and buy your own snacks/libations.

We have done this every year since 2007... come on over and become a legend!

If only! I would if I could. But, my present responsibilities entail being caregiver to my critically ill wife 24 x 7. This is my Camino, for the next months.

Best of luck, and happy picking! I hope you find some truly noteworthy "stuff."

But, next year . . .

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Dear friends, thanks for the good words. We have a YES, he is coming over from England just to pick up trash for four days. Pigs are marvellous creatures indeed!

The cleanup IS indeed held the last week of November, sometimes it overlaps into Decmber a little bit.
How do I find out more about the Ditch Pigs and other groups that spend a few days cleaning the trail? It sounds like Ditch Pigs would clash with Thanksgiving Day in US which for me is family time.

Anyone can be a Ditch Pig anytime they want. Just grab a bag and pick up some trash as you make your Camino. You can do the same thing in your own neighborhood or nearest national trail or park.

There are other initiatives like the Ditch Pigs. I don’t know how you can get to join but someone on here might. My earnest suggestion is just be a Ditch Pig. And if you are one and you introduce yourself to me then I’ll stand you a beer while we discuss the most outrageous, disgusting or most hilarious piece of trash you’ve had the honour to remove from the way 😉

(Just so everyone knows, Tinca is/was a Ditch Pig on a couple of our more filthy adventures.)

I am American-born, I still celebrate Thanksgiving, and I don't let the Pigs interfere with the holiday. It's usually the final week of the month -- the week AFTER Thanksgiving.
