Can anyone tell me of encounters with wild dogs along the camino?

I had no bad encounters with dogs. Some barked, though, but were behind their master's fence and the barks sounded more like obligatory ones, never menacing ones. I had read Shirley Mclaine's book and, walking through fromista, gave a few furtive glances around looking for that pack of wild ones she referred to but I don't recall seeing any of the sort, other than a sleeping hound that did not even glance up as I walked past. So, I hardly think dogs are a problem on the Camino Frances!

Hallo

Agree entirely with John. Have been on the camino twice and had no problem with dogs. Some of them were quite friendly and followed us for a while and turned back to go home.

Ignore them and they ignore you. Pls don't be cruel to them by brandishing sticks or whatever to antagonize them

Cheers
Bharat

Pilgrims getting bitten by dogs is not a myth. I met an Englishman in Logrono who was bitten by a small dog in SJPP (The dog's owner who saw the incident didn't even bother to help). He showed me his wounds; already had scabs on them.

In Galicia, I've also seen a dog bite a cow's hind leg when the cow strayed far from her group. Horrible scene, esp. at that moment I was walking along with a group of ten year old schoolchildren on the way to Triacastela for a day's hike. I was worried what the kids might think of witnessing the violence.
