I just discovered I will be in Madrid during the Fiesta National /Dia de Hispanidad after my Camino...I hadn't realized that Oct. 12 was a national holiday in Spain (it's counterpart here in the U.S., Columbus Day, is part of the reason I'm going when I am--one less day of vacation time I have to burn!)

My question is: aside from the parade, what other events go on that day in Madrid that might be of interest to a recovering pilgrim?

Ultreya,

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Some museums and public sights make an open doors day with free entrance. Check close to the date to see which ones made it this year. It may be other events too, a good idea is to check online closer to the date because you will find programs with (some of) the acts available.

In the past, the King would attend mass at the cathedral, then go off to watch the miltary parade. I'm not sure if that is standard practice. There may be concerts and similar events--- Castilian has some good ideas and I would check the turismo site online the week beforehand. As well, your innkeeper might know of something interesting in the immediate neighbourhood.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
You'll find a number of public services to be closed for the day. Stock up the day before of whatever you may likely need.

I will definitely do that...I was originally scheduled to arrive in Madrid on the 12th (for an early flight home in the 13th), but I already extended my hotel reservation to arrive the day before for exactly that reason.
