Gelert Summit 35 l backpack?

I was wondering about the quality. Will it hold up to a 1000 km walk?

That's the wrong question. It would be better to ask if you will hold up to wearing an ultralight pack for 30 days.

The pack will probably survive provided you don't tear the fabric on a sharp protrusion in a bar or albergue. Its not like you are going to be struggling through dense forest with branches continually scraping across the pack and tearing at the fabric. All the paths I walked on were pretty clear of that sort of obstruction, so heavyweight construction is not as important as it would be if you were trekking in other circumstances.

The very lightweight packs I have both have narrower shoulder straps and less hip padding than more durable packs of similar size. This doesn't matter all that much for a couple of days, but that is a different matter from walking the Camino. It will certainly be an incentive to keep your load weight down!

Just an early morning pre-coffee thought on backpacks. I walked last year with a Vaude 40l which I loved working out of. But, it is not the high end pack and I found that after awhile it started to squeak. Every step, squeak, drove me nuts. I will trade it in for a more quality pack although the Vaude was not cheap. Now with that off my chest, time for some coffee.

Try it on, if it fits you will probably be okay...

I got an osprey last year (tallon) 42L which was a good fit but before i contemplated getting the gregory jade 38L. The reason for not getting the Jade was that it came out at about 500g more, but sometimes i wonder if the perfect fit wouldn't have made up for the extra 500g easily....

also if you bring it and hate it or it falls apart you will come across shops to buy a new one in, so no disaster...

i didnt like the exon either which is why i got the tallon, tried hagløffs as well, didnt fit, and a few others i found too heavy but then my problem would be the opposite...

I actually walked around the store with the loaded backpack for about an hour before getting it...

I'm also sold on the Osprey Talon 44 for the following reasons (taking for granted that I consider the size and design are ok) .
1. I figure to remove the floating top pocket & place it inside the pack which will I think, with judicious packing, enable me to take it on board as cabin baggage.
2. It will take my disassembled pacer poles inside, carefully placed to appear on scanners as part of the pack's frame.
3. It is the most comfortable pack I've tried - and I really tried hard to like those like those osprey/deuter/gregory/others with the net panel sytem that rests against your back. That is such a good idea but the Talon just transfers the load to the hips better and to me that's more important.
4. I have trawled all the reviews and watched all the videos and the consensus I gather is that the Talon efficiently transfers the weight close to your centre of gravity enabling an upright, stable, balanced stance.
Being adverse to dingley danglies I'll lop off superfluous straps/buckes/ice pick holders.

I measured mine and with nothing in its only about 50 cm high (I have the size small) so just keep it only half full and you will be fine (AND have room for sandwiches) :lol:

I only have 1hr 15min to change in Paris so mine is going in the cabin also...

Sandwiches? I'm figuring on a load of that Burgos black pudding, yum, and closely nestled alongside a bottle of Glenfiddich 12yr old single malt. Heaven.

maybe get a foldable sleepingmat you will have both an inside working frame and no problemt of hangin it...

i'm a fan of the Gelert range...well priced for the quality.They test in Snowdonia so the camino will be ok.from time to time they offer poncho at half the price of the altus too!
if you like the lightweight approach...most sacks are stripable. My OMM 32 is down to 500grms now. But you need to consider that the durability of the super lites is less than a traditional pack.Having said that my pack if costed over one camino is £1.00 per day....so i'm free rolling for all the other times i use it.
