Lodging in Madrid

I will be finishing the camino on October 10 and am taking a Ryanair flight back to Madrid that does not arrive until midnight. I will be staying in Madrid until Oct.12. Does anyone have any recommendations on lodging in Madrid? It will need to accomidate quite a late check in and ideally be walking distance to some sights. Doesn't need to be the cheapest as I am sure I'll be ready for something a little nicer than an alburgue, but shouldn't break the bank either.

Also, any advice on must see sights in Madrid? I was there 10 years ago and all I remember doing was going to a Real Madrid soccer game and going to a museum.

Thanks in advance your help!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Hi, Rachel,

I think that the nicest "budget" place I've stayed in in Madrid is the Hostal Bruna, on Calle Moratinos very close to the Paseo del Prado and right across the street from the Prado Museum, which is one place I always go when I'm in Madrid.

Website of the hostal is http://www.ctv.es/hostalbruna/ It is very simple (single rooms about 40E and triple rooms about 70E), but it is very clean and the location is terrific, IMO. If you want to spend more than that, I would go to one of the Best Western properties in central Madrid. Upscale from that would be Conde Duque near Arguelles, and from there you can keep going up and up in terms of price and amenities.

When we arrived in Madrid, we simply walked down the Paseo de Prado and looked for lodging signs. We found a very nice room in a private house for under $35.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I asked this same question prior to leaving for my most recent camino. Hostal Persal was recommended here on the forum and we did stay there. The location was great, the room lovely, and the staff very friendly and helpful. Two thumbs up!

Thank you very much for the recommendations.

My biggest concern is our late arrival time. Are most accomidations in Madrid like typical U.S. hotels with a staffed desk, or are they more like a bed and breakfast where we will need to wake up the owner to be let in?
