Napoleon wind

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Wow! Just finished the walk from St. Jean to Roncesvalles. The wind was relentless. Wind was in the 40 mph range steady.
Is there still snow on the ground on the Napoleon route?? How cold is it up there? Should I bring my heavier fleece and hat? Buen Camino and get some rest:)

Just snow on the mtns, none near the CDS. No need for heavy fleece. I wore my lite fleece and a windbreaker. Not that cold. Wind made the walk a real challenge. Stayed at the Orisson btw, incredible experience. Reservation a must.
Thanks for your quick reply. I set out next Thursday from SJPP. The weather is expected to be rainy for about 4 days. I'm dreading such a start to my journey. I am from Washington state, so I guess I'll survive. We are having beautiful weather here and for the next week, while I'm treading water on the Camino:D

I wouldn't worry ahead of time about the predicted wet weather ahead. The forecast may change. When I started walking mid-April in 2012, it rained every day for the first two weeks, sometimes very hard with strong winds. The only negative comment I heard was 'I'm tired of being cold.' In fact, the consistent rainy days turned out to be a bonding factor with my new-to-me walking mates and the extended family that was growing around us. Eventually, the rainy days just became funny, we laughed a lot, and I enjoyed sliding along the trail in the thick mud (because I could!). What you dread may turn out to be a surprisingly good thing.

What a terrific attitude @marylynn. We have a tendency of wanting to plan everything but weather is out of our control. Go with it and enjoy every moment @Joodle. Buen Camino!

So happy to see another Mississaugan on the site. When in 2017 are you planning to go? I am hoping for May.

And I agree worrying about the weather is a mugs game. It will be what it will be. All we can do is prepare the best we can or be prepared to adapt.

Crazy loon, would love to meet up. I have done short Caminos; Leon to Santiago in 2014 and Ponferrada to Santiago in 2015. My hope is to do the whole thing in 2017.
Are you planning the full Camino Frances?

Well then, I can pick your brain. You are definitely the seasoned one. I am planning on doing the entire Camino and will be doing it at a leisurely pace as I want to enjoy every moment. Of course the Camino might have other plans for me, but I will take it as it comes. Right now my priority is to do some training and get myself into shape. Feel free to email me at crazyloon56@yahoo.com Donna

Hey, who are you? I was there last night too and yes, today was brutal!

Has anyone worn their hiking sandals in the rain with socks and saved their trail shoes for when it's dry?? Please don't make me bring my Keen leather hiking boots.:( It looks like a lot of rain for the first week in Spain.

I have a question about snow closure of the route. I've never experienced it. How do you know? Are there signs?? Must you check with the pilgrim office before leaving? Two years ago, Joe and several of my pilgrims got caught in a snowstorm up on top but nobody had given any warning.
