Pilgrims´Mass cancelled today for first time in years

For the first time in many years the Pilgrims´Mass has been cancelled today due to a security alert in the Cathedral. In the last year incidents have taken place in a number of Spanish Cathedrals and clearly the authorites are taking no chances. Today´s Pilgrims´Mass will be celebrated at 7.30 this evening - with Botafumeiro!

it has just been announced on the news that the cathedral has been given the all clear by the police.

Reb a wag? I assume you meant a witty person JW or did you mean Wife And Girlfriend? Seriously though this increasing problem is cause for concern and such a sad thing to happen. Already we have seen it affect taking backpacks into the Cathedral and one wonders where it might end.

that is so sad- and to limit backpacks from going in is very hard on incoming pilgrims, who not yet have their lodging. What is the world coming to when we have security alerts in churches?

I'm glad it didn't happen to us Joni. I will always remember sharing that evening mass with you and the Botofumerio along with HealthyTo and her husband. I felt very safe with two nurses and a doctor to take care of me if it dropped on my head!

Fear is becoming a bigger weapon than actual terrorism. Don't know how it can be avoided. Authorities can't ignore warnings when there are large gatherings and tight spaces.
