Hi just wondering if any UK based peregrinos can recommend a poncho ? Walking Sarria to SdC in early May. Thanks :)

Hi Welly,

I have this Sea-to-Summit Poncho:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HUL26AE/?tag=casaivar-21

It's a little bit on the expensive side, but has several advantages:
- fits easily over a backpack
- is ultra light and super small
- can be transformed into a tarp with your pole sticks (good for siestas or if you want to have some shade for your pause :D)

Here an example on how to transform this:

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Our discontinued (Rohan) ponchos from 2009 were like the Sea to Summit one @Fritzi has shown. I think this one would be worth every penny as it looks to be just as good for ease of use and adaptability. I rolled myself in one to sleep when I had a damp bed. Suspect someone had dumped their wet things on it before I arrived :(. Poncho had dried out by bedtime and I got a good night's sleep! Taunton Leisure stock some Sea to Summit items (half way down the hill on Fore Street, on the left, near the zebra crossing for you @Welly .

hi Welly I used a Ferrino poncho (ordered in advance and collected from the shop near the pilgrim office in SJPDP). I am not walking this year, and as you live in the UK I would gladly loan it to you. It is reddish orange, with ample room to cover tour backpack. I am a female standing five feet four inches - too old to do metric - in my socks. PM me if this is of interest and I will mail it to you. All I ask is that it be returned by recorded delivery. Buen Camino!

Hiya Welly,

I have the Trekmates Pak Poncho - £20 - from Cotswold Outdoors. (you can view online
100% Polyester, taped seams, map pocket and packs into it's own stuff bag
Total weight 279g.
This one piece also covers the rucksack.
The only negative I found in an 8hr deluge was it caused excess perspiration, but I countered this by changing into a self-wicking baselayer.

Buen Camino

Thank you all so much for your responses! Thank you Seb for your very kind offer. I am hoping to find one that I can use afterwards on the coast path so would prefer to buy my own but I really appreciate your kindness. Thank you Tia! I will go and have a look in Taunton Leisure today. James your picture is great! Thanks all, only 46 days til my first camino!x
