There have been several threads recently where fellow pilgrims have offered prayer for various needs.
I wonder if a thread for prayer requests would work, bearing in mind Rule 1 of the forum.
If the posts were limited to simple, short requests or gratitude for answered prayer; and any replies were just offering prayer rather than making comment or suggestions then it might be very helpful. Many of us are away from our usual supporting prayer groups and while on Pilgrimage would sometimes value the prayers of others who understand the Camino.

I am sure that Ivar and the moderators will be quick to remove any posts that do not fit with forum rules :) . The thread is in the members section rather than the 'open' forum to give some privacy to pilgrims asking for prayer support.

Buen Camino

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
We are praying for a good ferry crossing and for good health on the Camino.

I agree, this would be good. Trying to make it work without potentially distracting responses might be difficult. Maybe a 'prayer calendar' could work. People could post the name and reason (optional) for the prayer request on a date that was important (eg. anniversary of death, date of medical operation etc), and pilgrims starting/ending on that day could carry it with them, and pray along the way! :)

We don't have to know people to pray for them. I've done it and it was incredibly important to me to fulfil that prayer request.

Buen Camino!

p.s. Falcon will be throwing bricks at me if has to manage another calendar!

Good idea in one way Tyrrek, but it would have one big drawback. The Calendar is in the public domain, anyone can read it, and we don't publicise our dates on it for that reason. (House insurers don't like it :( ) Hence the posting here where it is members only. (I ran this past Ivar before making the initial post)

A friend once said to me - 'if we know the name we don't need to know the details of the problem, just pray'. In this thread we only need to have bare details, and the forum name is always there if the prayer is a request for oneself. (No more or I'll be breaking rule 1 maybe..........or straying from the idea of keeping it to prayer requests or thanksgiving. :)
So to keep us 'on topic'

Buen Camino to all

There is a thread by a new pilgrim 'contraprincess' about her 'ribbon project' to pray for people while on the Camino. Reading her posts maybe she would appreciate prayer too for herself, her family and the project as she walks. There are more details here too which are helpful

This is a lovely idea. I believe a pilgrim´s prayers have a special, purposeful power, which is amplified by his presence on the camino itself -- a path made holy by the passing of so many holy people over such a long time.

I live along the Camino Frances, and I have a little place here where I go to pray, smack on the Way. I can bring pilgrim prayers there, if people want that -- even though I am not a pilgrim most of the year, their intention will be present along the path. Maybe some of you like-minded people can help me develop this idea into something do-able?

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
A beautiful suggestion.
I experience two extremes when I hear prayer requests.
One is when I hear "Please pray for Robin" and there is no other information given. It is terribly hard to know what to pray, and how long to continue praying.

The other extreme is too much information... at what point does it become gossip, wrapped in a holy cloak. " Heavenly Father, we pray for Bill who is having an affair with his 8 year old daughter's piano teacher. This is only the latest in a long string of indescretions with younger women and we pray that it is the last. Bless and be with Mary, his wife, who wishes she could leave him, but is trapped in the marriage financially, and worries about the impact of a family break-up on the children..." You know what I mean. Fine prayed privately, but gossip when prayed out loud in public.

I like the idea of prayers for others on the Camino. I hope that in doing so, we can find some middle ground between the extremes I have noted.

Hola Rebekah,
Your offer is also a "lovely idea".
On a practical note, I think that any "prayer request" would need a "moderator" to assess/adjust and post to a viewable but locked "thread". This is very sad, but it might be the only way to preserve the requests from "critical” comment.
Buen Camino

A friend of ours said that she only needs a name, God knows the problem.

In my first posts I did say please don't make comments/ criticize etc. Having been responsible for starting the thread, with Ivar's permission, maybe I would need to flag 'inappropriate posts', but surely it shouldn't be needed, nor locking the post (except to a moderator). So lets stay on track and pray for those who ask without passing comment.

I too appreciate Reb's reply re the 'ribbon project' so to help keep this thread on track requote it.

Tia Valeria, I'm very sorry if I seemed to be interfering with what was already an existing Prayer thread, it was completely unintentional.
I incorrectly thought this discussion thread was to gain support and ideas for Ivar to create a dedicated “sub-forum” (a bit like the Calendar) for prayer requests.
I didn’t realize that this was the “actual” prayer list. Please forgive my genuine misunderstanding of the situation.
Colin

Thanks for the reply Colin. I am hoping that folk will feel able to post simple 'one liners' here for prayer, without inviting comment. Also it is in the members section so that it is 'private' to some extent.

We would value prayers as we plan for next year

Hello everyone,

As you all know the train accident just happened a few days ago. La Voz de Galicia has posted a list of all the passengers who died and their nationalities: http://media.lavozdegalicia.es//default ... inder1.pdf.

If you scroll down there's also a list of all those who remain hospitalized. I thought we could all join in prayer that the Lord would heal all of those who are still in critical condition and that there would be no further loss of life. Also, of course, to join in prayer for all the families and friends of those who died.

Having lit our candle and offered up 2 minute silence, as suggested in other threads, we watched the Requiem Mass from Santiago.

Once the eyes of the world's media turns to other disasters and tragedies the world will soon forget. Can we here on the forum who do believe in the power of prayer continue to pray. It is in the weeks and months ahead that the victims and their families, including the train driver, will need our prayers.
