Rain, rain, wind and rain

I had a walk in old town Santiago today. I made it a short walk, since the weather has been quite horrible the last few days. It was quite a scene. If you had an umbrella, holding it with one hand was not enough... the two hand grip was needed. Then, at least the umbrella would not blow away... another question is if it would be useful afterwards... about 80% of the umbrellas I saw in town today was stuffed away in trash cans around town. I even saw some "quality" umbrellas in the trash today.... Today is a day where umbrellas really did not help at all.

The wind has been reported to reach, at least in the gusts, around 100km/h (60 miles/hour?).

It was reported that during the first 8 days of 2008 we got more rain than in the fall of 2007. I believe it, and it has kept raining since the 8th.

Typical poncho weather! :)

Buen camino,

Yes indeedy, I feel bad for the pilgrims who´ve been on the trail the last couple of days! Out here on the meseta it´s been downright Galician, with high winds driving pellets of rain horizontally into everyone´s faces and knocking tiles off everyone´s roofs. This morning was truly horrible, even my dogs didn´t want to be outside!

But along about 11 a.m. the clouds rolled away, the sun came out, and the temperature went right up to hang-out-the-laundry levels! Tomorrow the fields will be brilliant green with all the new growth, from all that rain. Some drenched pilgrim must have sent up one heckuvva prayer!

to all you winter pilgrims, Saludos! y Ultreya!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

You probably don't want to hear about my walk the day before yesterday then.... I started much later in the day than usual. Gorgeous views up on hillsides, looking over the ocean, and along the coastline. But oh so hot. 33C. As you can perhaps guess.... it is summer holidays in the southern hemisphere!
