For those of you with smart phones, download the RENFE app. It makes life easier, no matter where in aSpain you happen to be.

I hope this helps.

P.S. ALSA (bus) also has a good app for both Android and iOS.

I was able to easily book my train tickets with the RENFE app while I was in Spain. The trick for me was to use PayPal for payment.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I know that Burgos and Leon have fast train service (AVE and ALVIA). If is often faster to take a fast train to major city, then continue by bus, rather than a slow train the whole route.

Trying to make this post a little more useful after feedback, I have put the primary stations in bold, and indented the secondary. This is list of rail stations along the Camino Frances for those looking to skip portions, or hopscotch around.

Me thinks this is about all anyone needs, per region. Take a look at this one, for example, the Frances from Pamplona to Ponferrada.

This is the page where you find the maps for the rest of the country. Easy peasy.

http://www.renfe.com/viajeros/mediadistancia/mapas_y_trayectos/La_Rioja.html

All you need to do to get to these is Google "Renfe maps media distancia". You can then access to Renfe website, or just look at the "images".
