Does anybody know why Domingo is preceded by 'Santo', while most (all?) other male saints are preceded by 'San'? San Juan, San Pedro, San Antón, San Fermín and many more. Are there any other Santos? There is "Santo Spirito", but that's not quite the same. I've asked the Ayuntamiento of Santo Domingo, but they've not replied.

I read these explanations and they make PERFECT sense to me. The phonetic sounded 'bridge' from the honorific San or Santo to the first syllable of the name is the key...
