I see that people are recommending liners instead of carrying a sleeping bag. The liners come in cotten and polyester. Can anyone make a recommendation as to which is preferable. Thanks

I have a silk liner. It is very lightweight and packable, and dries very quickly.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

€60,-
Anyone just taken a 'top sheet'? I have a cotton length of cloth which could be both sarong and top sheet, as I hear on the Via Podiensis in France the gites all have bottom sheet and blankets. It would weigh less than my sleeping bag, indeed.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
My choice in this kind of material is 'Cocoon': bag liner, micro towel, travel blanket... Veeery good quality and great catalog and materials.

Works fine for me.

What will you use for a bottom sheet?

I believe that a bottom sheet is provided. Can anyone tell me from their experience (on the Le Puy rute) if this is true?

Avoid cotton unless you have plenty of time to wait for it to dry. Silk is fine especially the real stuff . Polypropylene comes in various thicknesses so it is ideal for tailoring to individual warmth requirements, it dries easily as well .

Hi @DACamino,

I used silk on my first Camino (a hot May/June Frances) and personally didn't like it, mostly because of a lack of stretchability and insulation.

On my second (again hot July/August Frances) Camino I used a "Coolmax" Sea to Summit liner (the exact one seems to have been discontinued) and as well as remedying the problems with silk, it was a fair bit cheaper.

As to @Charles Zammit 's concerns about drying, I must confess I didn't wash it more than twice during the whole trip, as it really didn't seem to pick up much by way of odour. But when I did, being very thin fabric it dried readily.

Based on these two experiences I'd opt for the cotton like Coolmax material next time.

Buen Camino,

Rob.

HI,

I used Mulberry silk liner, did you know that bed bugs hate silk . In the first world war, soldiers would wear silk stockings under their uniforms to ward off bed bugs in their bunkers. Here is a link which informs us that they hate silk..

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Here's a contrary thought to consider . . . Liners are great in warm to mild weather and while you could get caught in chillier climes, alburge's have blankets should you need one. So, it's really about when you're walking the Camino. Fall through Spring has its own unique weather challenges wherein a light weight down or synthetic might be more preferably. Happy Trails

I recently used liner when I was walking the Tour de Mont Blanc and found it very convenient. Normally I carry a sleeping bag during my past caminos. Now I am in a dilemma if I do the same thing next October when I plan to walk the Via de la plata. Any ideas about this option ?
Thanks
