Futre camino plans april (2015) to May (2015)
Hello all, I am flying into Madrid in the next couple of weeks and was planning on taking a bus straight to Burgos after I arrive. I was planning on resting one day in Burgos and then starting the Camino.

Are there any hotel/hostel recommendations you would recommend near the Burgos bus station?

My other question is do you recommend bringing any sort of bike/backpack lock for the actual walk? Thanks so much in advance! I am really excited.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles

Try booking.com to see available hostales and hoteles. Around the bus station they are very cheap or very expensive! Cross the river for two albergues near the cathedral at pilgrim prices.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Burgos is a fabulous city and many of the streets are vibrant and abuzz with activity well into the night. If your budget on the first day extends to a hotel and you want a good night's sleep, ask for a quiet room. You might sacrifice a view but it is worth it. I stayed in a hotel on Calle de la Puebla, 4th floor facing the street, and the noise outside was truly unbelievable.

Still tossing up my start point.......in ten days......If I get into Burgos by bus would I be allowed to stay at the main Albergue (behind the Cathedral).
I stayed there on my last night on Camino in 2013. Also I wouldn't get in until 6-7pm would they be full by then?
Thanks in advance

You would be allowed to stay in the albergue even on your first night before walking. Whether or not they will still have space when you arrive that evening is THE question.

Good luck and Buen camino!

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
They were full when we arrived at 3pm!

Hotels near the busstation i stayed in: AC hotel by marriot. Modern, clean, very nice and 90 sec from the busstation and 70 seconds from cathedral.
Or another nice one i stayed in last time (with 10% pilgrim discount) hotel Palacio de los blasones. Good location. 2 minutes from cathedral, 5 minutes walk from busstation and in the same street as the big municipal albergue.

Yep. Its soooo close. Out of the bussation, across the water and there you are. Ok, so for anyone who is slower than Usain Bolt it might be 3,5 minutes.

Oh and before you go to check in, you can eat a FANTASTIC burger at Hamburgueseria Isla.
This is so close to the AC (and busstation) it would be ashame to not eat there ;)

Are you carrying anything worth stealing? You don't want to carry anything that you don't really need.

I don't know anything about bikes on the camino but as far as backpacks are concerned, no need for a lock. Just carry your passport , cash /cash card and whatever else that's valuable (phone?) WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES.
Buen camino :)

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I met a bike guy 2 years ago and he said his big remorse was not being able to visit historic places on the Camino because he was afraid without a biking partner his packs and/or bike might get stolen. This was said outside the cathedral in Burgos where the lockers are only big enough for a day pack.

For more on locks and protection see this earlier Forum thread.

However, never leave unwatched what you can't afford to lose. Like many other pilgrims I sleep with any valuables within my sleeping bag beneath my feet and NEVER tell anyone where and what they are!! A few years ago in Trinidad de Arre an actor from LA who was bunked next to me asked anxiously "Where do you have your money?" As if on cue I rolled my eyes and answered "Why in the bank! And you?"
