Starting in Roncesvalles in October 2013

Hello friends.
Years ago, I walked from SJPP to Santiago in May/June and it was a good period, because I've met lots of people and the weather was pretty good.

So, im worried, because I plan to go at 1st October (my vacations) starting in Roncesvalles to Santiago, and I need to know some past experience from people that walked at this season. Is it cold? Do you have hot sun while to while?
I also need to know if theres people, or a lonely walk at that time? Its important to me meeting people during the path.

Thanks
Pedro

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Pedro,

Welcome to the Forum!

October is a great time to walk the Camino!

There are always some pilgrims, but never the crowds of summer, nor the dash for a bunk.

Starting mid month not all albergues will be open, but the hospitaleros usually know who is on the next stage. Most albergues will either be heated or have blankets.
Since the crowds are past you will find the welcome at those albergues which are open to be most sincere.

You must be prepared for varied weather. Nights can be chilly or cold and freezing rain or even snow might occur. Many veteran autumn pilgrims wear light weight thermal layers which can easily be added or removed as we walk. A warm hat and gloves are also useful.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
It won't get lonely until after Christmas! Less crowded, yes, but not lonely.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Hola Pedro welcome!

I walked from St Jean on the 5th October finishing in Finisterre on the 12th November back in 2010. We had wonderful, sunny, warm weather for the first few weeks and met plenty of other people along the way. You will need sun protection - sunscreen, a hat etc. The weather did get quite cold about halfway through so thermal layers, a beanie, gloves and a good sleeping bag are worth taking with you for the cold nights and mornings. By the last week I was wearing a lot of cold weather gear all day as it was getting very chilly.

As Margaret has said it's a great time to walk as it's less crowded and you don't miss out on beds, and there are enough walkers to make friends with! It's a great time of year to go and I think you'll have a terrific time.

Buen Camino,
Kat

My friend and I walked from SJPP last year to Estella from October 1st to the 7th and it was warm with many pilgrims along the way. We had rain one day but it was nice as it helped cool things down. The evenings were comfortable and we walked around the town with t-shirts, no jacket required. We carried sleeping bags and liners but I didn't use my bag at all. The weather was great.

Buen Camino,

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
