April 2024 Via de La Plata Sevilla start
Y’all,
one week from today I get on the plane to fly to Sevilla. Growing anxiety. I will start El Camino on April 6. I hope to report progress here and continue to look for advice. How does one get the cool “Live from the Camino” on the post?
I am registered with the Cathedral (Santiago)as a pilgrim. Got my number. I recall there is an office near the Sevilla (see below) cathedral where I can check in and get a credencial. is this the best place to start for send off information?
plan on hitting the pilgrim mass each day i am there.

When I lived in Spain I visited italica. I would like to revisit. Is there enough time to visit italica on the first leg?

When I did the VDLP in 2021 I went to the association office that is near the cathedral. No one there spoke English but my Spanish is good enough that I understood everything I was told. The people there were wonderful. But I did not receive any information that I didn't already know that was useful. Also, I do hope you have some Spanish because it will make things easier as I barely met a person anywhere that spoke even a little English on the whole camino. I would still visit the association as they may have more information now or you may find what they tell you informative that you may have missed in your preparation. I think I got my credential there. I did go back to visit the cathedral and got a stamp there.

Italica is worth it. Take the city bus from Sevilla directly to Italica so you can spend enough time there before walking on to your lodgings.

I’ve just got back from that route. It’s something else! Enjoy yourself!

I stopped at Santiponce/ Italica on my first day out of Sevilla. The albergue is great and there is a lovely little bar filled with bull fighting memorabilia. I don’t agree with bull fighting but the ambiance and food were great.
I missed the ruins as opening hours closed for the day at 2.00 pm or thereabouts - just looked from the outside.
But the whole Via has many opportunities to see the Roman heritage of Spain - particularly Mérida.

Thanks for the responses
1) Spanish should not be an issue. I lived in Spain as a youth. Learned it as total immersion. I may be rusty but I have been brushing the rust off.
2) Ms Rita what was the name of the Albergue you stayed at? What is the name of the bar. The bar really really interests me. I learned to appreciate (aficionado) of La corrida. So I would hate to miss that bar and the food there.
