Well done. I hope you have had someone with a sympathetic ear to share the experience with when you arrived home. I remember how valuable that was for me to be able to share while I was still 'on a high' and the reality of day-to-day matters had not taken over.

Regards,

Wow! An average of 34 km a day beats a few of us old timers!. Well, those over 70, of course!
Glad you made it in one piece.
What is your reason for advising to never again book into an albergue?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

34 km a day was ok .... It was after 5 days that thinga got bad... I was nearly hobbling ... And taking ibupro... When I do it the next time it will be 20-25 km's a day..

Again i was a little over optimistic... Pushing myself to places i had pre-booked. I will never prebook again,

I've never even done 34 kms in ONE day! 33 was my maximum, then I had to give up due to severe blistering.
I usually average around 18 to 20 kms a day, because I spend a lot of time taking photographs and talking to the animals: I've been known to tell a butterfly how beautiful he/she was!
Up to now, I have never booked in advance, as it defines your walking distance for the day - you simply have to get there, and may not have time to enjoy the wild flowers. However, it seems the albergues are getting busier - in May some were full by 3 p.m.. There was always alternative accommodation, however.
Buen camino!

Stephen.

Testing oneself is a common motive for walking the Camino. Validating self-worth is a common thread throughout pilgrimages, whether they are religiously motivated or just athletic.

"I can do this."

On some caminos, a long distance is mandated by the frequency of accommodations. However, if "testing" is set aside, I have yet to encounter the circumstance where I cannot start the day with a taxi ride. Finding a taxi at the end of the day from the middle of nowhere is more problematical.

So if you are not consciously testing yourself with a distance, you can always consider shortening it with a taxi ride. [Purists -- don't read this comment...]

Hello all. Here to give a brief account of my (and many others) first day on the Camino on May 1. The trip to Roncesvalles was tough. I went Valcarlos route because napoleon was very ill advised...

I struggle with social anxiety and I was wandering if anybody with the same issue had a positive experience on the Camino walking alone. I saw lots of posts and videos people talking about forming...
I am wondering how you disconnect, in part, from the world. I have a couple of reasons that I need to be accessible but, I don't want to be constantly connected on this journey. Ideas?
Money stolen from bag on bed while sleeping. Estelle municipal hostel. Not a big inconvenience as my passport and credit cards were left.
