This morning...

Caminando

This morning as I sat up in bed, I looked through the window and saw two pilgrims winding their way up the lane - an older couple, guidebook in hand.

It was early, the start of their day, so I simply wished a 'bon chemin' from an upstairs window and gave them the right direction, as they hesitated at the little crossroad.

Not many come this way, on the route from Geneva and beyond; but with spring, around lilac blossom time and after the daffodils have faded, I see the numbers slowly increase each year. This pleases me; and I am content to make a new camino in some days.

Bewailing in my chamber thus allone,
Despeired of alle joye and remedye
For-tirit of my thoght, and wo begone,
Unto the wyndowe gan I walk in hye
to se the warlde and folk that walk forbye;
As for the tyme, though I of mithis fude
Myght have no more, to luke it did me gude.

(The Kingis Quire, James I of Scotland 1394-1437)

and from the south -

"Whanne that Aprille with his shourés shooté...
...Men longen gonne on pilgrimage."

(Yes, ye olde Chaucer, Canterbury Tales Prologue)

Buen camino to all who will walk this year....
Buen camino to Ali who starts in Madrid today.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Good morning Caminando,
I'm walking 'down' Germany, section by Jakobsweg section, (got as far as Augsburg so my next goal is either Lindau or St Gallen) and plan to cross Switzerland next year pushing on to Le Puy if I have the time. So maybe late next year or early 2013 I will be standing at your crossroads scratching my head wondering which way to go and looking out for a a friendly face/voice to point me in the right direction! I hope you'll be there in your role as a pilgrim shepherd Caminando......but if not could you paint a little yellow flecha on the road to 'put me right'?
Thanks in advance

Hello all. Here to give a brief account of my (and many others) first day on the Camino on May 1. The trip to Roncesvalles was tough. I went Valcarlos route because napoleon was very ill advised...
I am wondering how you disconnect, in part, from the world. I have a couple of reasons that I need to be accessible but, I don't want to be constantly connected on this journey. Ideas?
Can anyone tell me if food is available there… anyone stayed recently? Cheers
If you’re walking the Camino Portugues right now I’d recommend you avoid the complementario route into Pontevedra. While it is quiet and green and follows the river, it’s also a muddy mess. I...
