I just arrived in Burgos, from Villafranka. A long hike through some beautiful forest. But too long, unfortunately, and a blister under my toe to prove it. I started in Logrono on Wednesday. Today is day 4. Already I have met some good and kind pilgrims, we pass each other now and then. I have enjoyed some good conversations in these few days. For that alone, I am glad to be here. Of course it’s hard, at times. The Camino challenges you much as it rewards you. Most of all, I like the gentle humanity you find in fellow pilgrims. A goodness of soul and spirit, which restores my faith in people, who come from many corners of the world. What a privilege.

For the record: the weather is good, accommodation is readily available and no, it’s not overcrowded. If you’re setting off soon, Buen Camino.

Sorry to hear you have a blister and so pleased to hear you have heard your body calling a comfortable distance for you and are going to let it heal! I have often wondered about the many people who battle on determinedly making their feet worse when stopping for a day or two, or at the very least walking shorter days might have made all the difference. the camino doesn't have to be a form of penance to pay! I do understand some people are on tight schedules and don't want to take a bus to make up for "lost time", but I also wonder if there are some who just didn't realise waiting or slowing down is an option.
Is there a camino documentary or film that doesn't have at least one person struggling on in spite of severe pain?

Apart from time constraints, one thing that may drive someone to continue, when injured, is to keep the company of pilgrims befriended at the start. I can understand that. It’s those first friendships that seem to count the most. However, walking with injury is no fun. It’s best to rest if you can. I have found that new friends come along soon enough anyway. And besides, I’m as comfortable solo as in a group. I find that you don’t remain solo for very long anyway. I fully expect to be back on the Way on Monday. I look forward to meeting old friends and making some new ones. Once I’m healed, it’ll be full steam ahead!!

You can dream about being here on the camino. You can read about it, remember it, see films and you can talk about it but nothing beats actually being here, living it and taking it all in. And this time, just living it, day by day. No journal, few photos and no rush to be anywhere on any day. Truly in the right place at the right time this time!!

Today it was a slow walk from Burgos to Hornillos, very slow. Many pilgrims passed me by. I walked alone, by choice.

No conversations, no photos, no messages, no calls and no music. Just the wind in my face, the ground beneath my feet and yellow sunflowers to my left and right.

I feel I have entered another Camino, different to the one before.

Tomorrow's walk to Castrojeriz is one of my favorite days. Stop for a coffe/beer in Hontanas.
And the rest of the Meseta is ahead! Blessing!

Albergue Rosalie Jesper. It’s basically pot luck I’m afraid. When I make my bookings it’s pure guesswork on my part. I’m tending now to go for the slightly more expensive Albergues in the hope that I’ll end up in the better ones. Better as in more comfortable and better facilities. I don’t know this camino well enough to make any informed decisions about where to stay. So, I’m more than happy to accept any recommendations.

Turns out I lost my Credential and one pair of new wool rich socks, all in a day. It pays to have a good packing routine. Ah well!!

The walk from Leon to Astorga is real tough. Long stretches near the highway with little shade and rocky paths. Don’t do it in one go as I did. It’s brutal. But then again, Astorga is a just reward.

The first part to hospital del orbigo is the mental fight while the second part is more physical. I went Leon to Hospital and next day Hospital to El Ganso and had lunch in Astorga. The next day again I went El Ganso to Molinaseca - and that was brutal.

What an odd detour this is from one’s everyday life.

I feel like we are a deep river flowing through the everyday lives of others.

They look at us, we look at them and perhaps each of us envies something of the other.

These pictures are a reminder that everything has an end.
