travel from Madrid airport to Santander/Bilbao

Hi

We'll be landing in Madrid around 6:30 and want to get to the north coast by bus/train preferably the same day. Does anybody have information on this - I've tried the websites (most are Spanish) but I'm not sure what to do as I would prefer not to go into Madrid itself (sounds like a big, bustling city)?

Thanks
Hester

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Hi - I've had a quick look at this - others may have actually done this journey.

It seems that if you don't want to go into Madrid you can either:

1 Fly on to Bilbao or Santander - http://www.iberia.com/

2 Get a bus - http://www.alsa.es/portal/site/Alsa

If you want to take a train you need to travel to the main train station in Madrid. Have a look here:

http://www.renfe.es/ "Ida y Vuelta" Is a return journey. "Ida" is outgoing only.

I don't know the dates of your travel or arrival/connection times but these sites should give you the information you need.

Good luck with the research :)

Hi!
I have done a couple of times Madrid-Santander return by bus. Very easy!

First, bus from airport direct to main bus station ''Intercambio Avenida de America'' (bus 204);

Then, bus direct Madrid to Sandander with Alsa. Nice trip, beautiful scenery, especially after Burgos.

Good luck!
