Travel from Madrid to Pamplona

First Camino! Plan for Spring 2022
Advice please, I am not a seasoned traveler. I am flying into Madrid and will need to get to Pamplona to meet a group. I saw Renfe trains, does anyone know if I should purchase ticket in advance? There seem to be several places to purchase train tickets online but I am wondering if the official site is the safest. Any other way to getting Madrid to Pamplona? I'm fearful of this first step. I arrive on a Saturday morning around 7:00 am.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Buses are the other and likely cheaper option!! Oh and you can fly too but likely more expensive!

Yes, I would get your ticket in advance. We waited last fall and had to take a bus to Zamora then to Pamplona. Going through the official site, Omio or Rome2Rio are safe.

I'm curious what time of year you had to get a bus to Zamora then Pamplona?

Since 2006, I have walked out of Terminal 4 in Madrid and gotten right on a bus to Pamplona.
I have never had to change buses. The buses stop in Soria for food and a break.

A tip: plan your arrival in Madrid as early in the morning as possible. Then, based on bus schedules at movelia.es, you should have a number of choices of bus to take.

I just did a search for April 15. There were buses directly from the airport Terminal 4 at 1:15, 11:55, 12:15, 1:15, 3:15, 5:15, and 8:45

It was at the end of August. We stayed in Madrid for 2 days before heading to SJPP.

We took a bus from the Madrid airport, there is a counter in the terminal from which you can buy your ticket or if you bought it online you pick it up there too. Really easy, just be sure to double check the departure time🚶🏼‍♀️ Buen Camino!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Annie,

Would you mind sharing the link you searched? Did you purchase the ticket online or at the airport? I am looking at March 1st.!

Thank you

Hi Suzi
I'm flying in from Australia to Madrid and on to Pamplona. The flights to Spain are long enough for me to not want to do bus or train, although undoubtedly cheaper. We have a shortish connection time, a 1 hr/1.10 flight and get to Pamplona about 5pm. We'll stay overnight to help with jetlag and then transfer to SJPDP the next morning.
Guess it depends on budget, travel time/tolerance, and how much hassle it is to find buses and trains, and whether changes are involved. The faster the better for me 😇.
