Gronze has a note for the albergue in Valdesalor saying the key needs to be picked up from the town hall or the bar. Am I correct in assuming that this only applies if you are the first to arrive? Or does everyone need to pick up a key? Not sure if they give everyone their own key, or if it’s just the one key. Anyone stayed here?

I stayed there a couple of years ago. Picked up a key from a small shop/cafe in one of the side streets. As I was the only person there that night I'm afraid I don't know what happens when there is more than one pilgrim.

You'll have to register before entering the albergue regardless of whether someone is already there or not.. show your credential and passport at the town hall or bar.

I suspect there is only one key, but you’ll need to register first anyway, just hope that any earlier arrival is awake and on the premises.

It’s 11 years since my experience in this little town. About 11 of us arrived on a Sunday when there was a wedding taking place, I think just about half the village was attending including both the usual eating places. The key as provided by a village official, we paid our 10 E, signed the book and had our credentials stamped. Oh, for food it was whatever the roadside service station had left. That could be microwaved. There had been a restaurant here in the passed but it too suffered from being to close to another major town (carsarus). Oh more more thing there were two toilets but only one shower. Everyone was happy to take their time for a turn. Cheers

I stayed there in 2022. Was a great little town and albergue. I think it was already open when I arrived. As above I think it is just as you enter town. I can't remember what I did about registration and payment.
