Via Francigena Luggage Transport Service

Time of past OR future Camino
Planning to walk the Camino in June 2018
When I did the Camino de Santiago in Spain there was a luggage transport service that carried my bag for 5 euros each day to the next accommodation.
I’m trying to find a similar service in Italy and am not finding success. If you know of a company that offers this service, please let me know. Grazie!!

A quick Google search found these

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I've used 'Bags-Free' but you should know that a) it's about €15 per stage and b) they and the others only start at Lucca. They will also arrange accommodation for you if you want the total package.

Just about everything on the Francigena will cost three times as much as on the Frances; except public transport.

Possibly 50 percent again on top compared to spain , or maybe double, but not three times. The via is just so much longer that it does cost a lot more as it adds up, but I dont think it was three times more expensive in 2019.

I have a related question - a lot of the places I'm looking at between Lucca and Rome aren't staffed regularly (you call when you arrive, or you pick up the key somewhere). Can the luggage transport services also go to these convents and monasteries and donativos, or are they restricted to albergues and hostels?

I've never used a service, but I have a friend who is interested in joining me next year on the VF. He absolutely will need to have his bag transported. For my part, I don't want to be restricted to hostels and albergues.

I've written to both Bags Free and Slow Ways. Slow Ways asks for a list of accommodations, and they will verify if its feasible. Bags Free tells me they can deliver to any "hotel, b&b, and apartment." I'm written both back to see if they can at least tell me in general if they deliver to parochial institutions. I'll keep everyone posted if I get a clearer answer.

You might need to be a bit inventive then. There are Agriturismos (farm accommodation) in that section to which they will deliver as well as hotels. The baggage companies can also delivery up to 60km away, or 3 walking sections, to cater for cyclists. So you could do sets of 2 x donitivos and 1 x Agriturismo and have luggage relayed while carrying day/overnight packs.

I'd recommend Agriturismos over hotels as they are much more relaxed than hotels/hostals. Even the farm dogs make you welcome by sharing the accommodation with you.
