Vilachá is at 94km on the Camino Francés, so 20 km after Sarria, 2km before Portomarin.

I'll be running it as a cafe donativo from April til September with grand plans to turn it into a tea room, offering Yorkshire tea and Barry's tea (I know my market). Apparently marscapone and icing sugar tastes like clotted cream so cream teas are a plan.

I trust that you will be following the legendary hospitality of the penitential Julian the Hospitaller and not that of the unreformed Julian who allegedly murdered his house guests (his elderly parents!) in a tragic case of mistaken identity.

This reminds me of Chaucer’s Merchant, whom he compared to St Julian, whose house ‘snowed’ with food and drink, just as your donativo will be snowing with icing sugar and builders’ tea! The mascarpone, however, might reduce the snow to sleet.

Yes that worried my mum when I told her the legend, but then perhaps she should have done research before naming me! I will probably actually choose something more marketable than my name.

Well if anyone's on their way I've just opened up until June for now. I'm at Vilachá no. 4, 91ish km to Santiago, next door to the famous Casa Banderas which you'll find on the apps. I'm competing with them on flags. I have Yorkshire, Tetley and Barry's tea, including decaf and non-tea teas, plus things like Penguins, Wagon Wheels and Tunnock's Teacakes. I'll take photos tomorrow.

If I'm closed look behind you for a car with a GB sticker. If It's there that means I'm in so knock on the door. It's cold and rainy at the moment so I'm mostly staying inside.

As I recall, at a low point for me that day, that is a neat group of buildings. With grandiose--and most un-pilgrim-like--thoughts, I could envision it as a sort of low-key vacation village. I still can. Buena suerte.

Is that from Brierly? I've just read the Vilachá section for 2019 and that's not there. However, I do agree with you. I felt the same walking through Hontanas, after Burgos. It was lovely though, but not what I was looking for.

No, that's from me. I've been an urban planner (with an undergrad degree in art history) for many years, and I can't stop myself from looking at buildings--even along the Camino--for their potential.

Albergue Vilachá will be reopening on 1 May too. The Italian guys who've taken on the lease arrived yesterday. They promise bar food especially pasta that is properly cooked, not like general Spanish pasta.

Los Andantes, also in Vilachá which does vegan stuff and is a bar should be open at times over the summer. The family (Italian/German) that own it now live in A Coruña, but she is coming back to run the bar/restaurant. Is there another thread I should post this stuff to?

This means there is now a huge number of immigrants in this tiny Galician village.
