What's the significance of these posts and the symbols on them? And why do they say "Francia" on one side and "Portugal" on the other?

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Been searching but can't find anything on this, yet.
edit: where is this? What village?

Direction of travel. I was telling my wife in February earlier this year that they weren't there Jan/Feb 2018. A bit confusing at first as they are in every single intersection...I could see somebody not familiar with them wandering off on the wrong trail if they weren't careful.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!

They mark a long distance cycling route called EuroVelo 1. It crosses several European countries. The words Portugal and France on opposite sides of the poles indicate the general direction. The triangle and circles are standard indicators for bike riders: right, left, straight on. There is a short section in Castilla y Leon where EuroVelo 1 and the CF follow the same trail.

Thanks! That makes sense.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
We saw simmilar signs on the Camino de San Salvador in Castilla y Leon indicating "Ruta via de la plata" norte on one side and sul on the opposite side.

Well, that thread took a strange turn!

I, too, have been to the museum in the Gaudi palace in Astorga and looked at the exhibits that illustrate medieval views of saints and martyrdom. I had my thoughts about gender roles in that world view and how they were represented in art and doctrine but won't bore you with it.

Coming back to the ... something else: does everyone think boobs and not balls when they first see these apparently largely unknown cycling pictograms? 😇

I noticed on the markers that someone has taken it upon themselves to vandalise the sign on the crest for Leon....
So disappointing, seems there's no getting away from mindless and wanton destruction. Perhaps it's a 'political' statement or 'my town/team is better than your town/team'. Idiotic either way benefiting nothing and nobody. :(

I totally agree with your last sentence. I, too, had been wondering whether this is about some sort of "polemico". And I now notice that the words "y León" in "Junta de Castilla y Leon" seem to be whited out in the second photo.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

€60,-
Good question and even better answer. Thank you to both
Ditto! I wondered myself, and neither I nor my walking companion that day (from Ireland) had a clue. Although she did explain the one is the European Union. Learn something every day 😔.... Even though I should have known. 🤦‍♀️

I think the 12 is from the European Flag representing the council of Europe. Don't know what the 1 represents though.

There is quite a bit of that along the way. In some places I would think are quite inappropriate.

I think these are the new signs in P. I have read a lot of criticism of them. I suppose they might be for those walking the Way in reverse.

No, they aren't Camino markers - there are no Camino symbols on them. As post #5 above says, they mark a cycling route.
