Winter routes

Could some Winter Wanderers comment on their choice of route for a winter camino (January/February perhaps) and reasons for choosing that route?
I wouldn't be looking for companionship, am comfortable covering 35+km, happy to self-cater, ideally wouldn't be looking at the same scenery every day, would be sensible about risk management.

Via de la Plata and Camino Francés come to my mind. Perhaps the only chance to experience the CF like it used to be - with all the ups and downs. Buen Camino SY

Hola - it depends where you want to end! If Santiago then early in the year there is the risk of bad weather (severe at the moment) as you move north into Galicia. My favourite routes in winter are in the South - currently I'm walking from Córdoba to Merida with blue skies and sunshine. So... The Camino Levante from Valencia or any of the Mozárabe variants from Malaga, Granada, Cádiz or the Via de la Plata from Sevilla.

If you'll take a response from a "Wannnabe Winter Wanderer", I'll agree with JohnnieWalker. Valencia, Alicante, Almería, Malaga -- these are all great places to start and they all have a camino or two emanating from their centers.

How many weeks are you hoping to walk Rachel?

Of course I'll take a response from you my dear!!!!! At this stage I am just dreaming. This coming summer we are planning a NZ Road Trip so it would be the following year before I could be a-camino-ing (maybe January 2019). I'm thinking I might be able to convince the family that a solitary camino is in order if I take it during our summer when a) daddy is off work and can do childcare duties (youngest will be 13 by then so not wanting much parental guidance but still in need of it), and b) it's holiday time so it wouldn't really matter what happened when I was away. Six weeks would be bare minimum but I'd prefer eight.
On the other hand, it might be the time to grab my other dream by the horns and head to South America with kids too for some intensive Spanish - this is probably more likely - a solo camino will wait. Kids grow up.

From the POV of infrastructure, CF will give the most open Albergues I believe, and as SY mentioned the opportunity to have a quiet Pilgrimage on CF is pretty much only available during this time of the year!
