Let me throw a question out here regarding the Camino Ingles. Given that historically it has been walked by English speakers, would those who have walked multiple routes say that more Spaniards speak English along this route as compared to the others? Just curious.
Hi - given the name of the route I can understand your question. The Camino Ingles was the route used by pilgrims from northern europe arriving by boat. So it wasn't exclusively English speakers. In any event that was so long ago I don't think it would have a bearing on the language skills of the locals today. The route has been little walked over the years and it goes through deep rural Spain - I've met some older people who have only spoken Gallego in their lives let alone English.
