    Class of 2012

I feel ya! I don't walk in the rain and since this rainy season has been particularly unpredictable, i've not trained as much as I should have. Luckily I generally walk more than the average bear in normal life and I have no time frame so I can take it nice and slow until I get into the shape...

Sleeping bag or no sleeping bag starting StJPP 25 August?

I am leaving a couple weeks after you and am not carrying a sleeping bag. I have a Reactor Extreme liner and I might bring my silk sack as well for an extra insulating layer. If it's very cold and/or there are no blankets, I'll sleep in my warm clothes with my poncho on top. If I find it's...

Walking from Birmingham to Jerusalem - 2014

I've not done a walk like this, but depending on how the camino goes I'm thinking of doing something similar. I think with a trip of that length and distance you have to be somewhat flexible. Things change quickly in the world and places that are safe this month might not be next month and...

    Got my Credential!

I just ordered my credential and forum badge. woo hoo. 1 month from today I'll be heading to the US for final prep.

lol! I hope it works out for you. I'm lucky in that I have no food allergies but I have met many many people around the world who are only allergic to things in the US and when they travel they're fine so maybe you'll get lucky!

August 2012 planing to walk with my 21 month old son

Most people already bring too much stuff so are unlikely going to be willing to carry yours as well. You'd probably do well to use a taxi service as just carrying your child and his daily gear will be a full load.

    Great hiking tips

So, we need to watch out for a slow, stumbling, Scotsman carrying a tool box. Keep adding to the 'distinguishing features' list and people will be sure to spot you. :)

If you're gluten-free because of an allergy, you might find that it doesn't impact you in the same way in Europe. I was having this convo with a group of travelers the other night and they're only lactose intolerant and gluten sensitive when eating US foods but while they're traveling they can...

    Class of 2012

I'm flying into Barcelona and from there I'll train to Pamplona and bus to Ronc. I'm not starting from SJPdP so I've not looked into onward travel but I know it exists. That might be an option.

    Class of 2012

Guess I should add myself to this thread. :) I'm Mandy, 38, originally from Chicago and DC, currently from Mexico. I land in Barcelona on 6 September and will be there a couple days to deal with jet lag and last minute purchases. Could potentially stop in Andorra for a few days as it's...

    New to forum

I'm walking at the same time as you and I'm not overly concerned about finding a bed. From everything I've read, September isn't THAT busy (usually) that there's a bed race and I don't intend on following the stages outlined in the guides which seems to be the key to finding a bed easily.

    Introduction: moraneigel

I would not count on this working unless you booked two separate tickets. If it's part of one itinerary, generally if you miss the first leg they cancel the rest. You can't just hop on in the middle of the itinerary - just like you're not supposed to get off in the middle of an itinerary (and...

    Hello all!

Welcome! Good luck with your planning and training. One suggestion I would make is to stop Rosetta Stone and start Fluenz. Rosetta Stone is great if you want to be fluent. That takes a LONG time. However, if you want to be conversant quickly, Fluenz will get you there. Rather than learning...

Buen Camino!!! Coming from Alaska in September.

well, i'll be walking the same time as you but I'm older (38). I think you'll probably find that age is relative when traveling. Last night I had drinks with 4 people aged 22, 39, 67 and 53. We had a great time. Tomorrow I'm having dinner with two 70+ers and I can't wait. Shared experience...

    Hi all!

24 kilos (I love that you say only! lol)! holy crap! No wonder you had a hard time. Your knees will probably be fine if you use poles and take a more realistic 5-7 kilos. Just listen to your body. Don't rush. Stop when you need to. Good luck!

I am looking for a person to walk the El Camino de Santiago.

Even being familiar/unfamiliar with the good/bad areas of each respective place you're still much more likely to be the victim of violent crime in LA than on the Camino. But, do what makes you comfortable just realize you might be missing an important part of the walk.

    1st Time Sept/Oct 2012 whole 800kms

Also check out air berlin. they have some good deals. Booking a round trip isn't always cheaper than booking 2 1-ways so do your research. skyscanner can be good for that.

I am looking for a person to walk the El Camino de Santiago.

Like John said, you'll very likely meet many people on the road as long as you are open to it and you'll find someone to walk with organically. IMO, the miniscule safety concern is far outweighed by the likelihood of making advance plans to walk with a stranger and ending up hating them but...

Mike, Ireland, Learning to walk again

Congrats on getting up and getting moving again! Walking is a great way to lose weight at a slow and steady pace. It'll start melting off of you. When I moved to Europe in 2001 I went from a size 14 to a size 6 in about 3 months just from walking and not eating fast food. It was crazy. Just...
