20th Anniversary Cercanias Madrid Attacks

Hi all, sorry sombre topic , but seeing the ‘check in calendar’ for March and accommodation post about Madrid has reminded be that we are fast approaching the 20th anniversary of the Madrid Cercanias railway bombings. It will be 11 March 2024 (known as 11-M). I think it’s still the largest terrorist attack in Europe, certainly on land (the Pan Am bombing over Scotland in 1988 had more victims).

If thru Madrid and or Atocha that day you may want to be aware of that. No idea what is planned, though I know the memorial is changing, and may be unveiled prior.

Anyway…onto cheerier things.

A sad reminder as Xmas approaches of man's inhumanity to man. Events in The Holy Land are a stark reminder and yet at the personal level recently I have been made aware of the kindness of strangers.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Violence seldom brings any positive results. We were in that trains station hours before, headed home. It was sad to read the news the following day, we were fortunate. Religions and lands are by definition divisive, we share one world. Peace.
