Fifty military Special Operations Command (MOE) of Rabasa headquarters, known as Green Berets, left yesterday to run the camino in relays from Alicante to Santiago in 5 days. The pilgrims will cover a hundred miles each day, day and night without interruption.

The reason as stated by the military authorities:
''to commemorate the Ano Santo and combine the efforts of peregrination with military training''.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Oh Sil (belatedly) - I think we saw them march by. I've forgotten where we were - just after Boente maybe... it was a strange but impressive juxtaposition with the camino.

Santiago "Pilgrimage" and the military....rings a bell...

Ferdinand and Isabella would approve....

One nice thing is that as they will run day and night, they will not deprive less competitive pilgrims of a bed. And that's very good.
