Arranging Transportation from Netherlands

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Hi, last time I went to SJPdP I took the train from Rotterdam. Change train in Paris to Bayonne and from there to SJPdP.

You have to by your tickets in advance.

Wish you a wonderful time and a Buen Camino,Peter.

THe longer you wait the more expensive travel will be.

Yes, get to Paris any which way, then either take the TGV to Bayonne and the little trrain to SJPP, or fly into Biarritz and take the bus from there.

Take a look at the rome2rio website.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Look to http://Rome2Rio.com for a list of options. Then verify one or more on the pertinent other websites. (Rome2Rio is useful for getting ideas, but never trust it to be accurate! It frequently shows buses that don’t exist or gets the price completely wrong.)

We have taken really inexpensive flights from Amsterdam to Pamplona in the past.
We often begin our journey in Amsterdam as there is a wonderful Hermetic library there.

Why do you have to buy tickets in advance?

Also, are you saying there are no trains from Amsterdam to Paris? Just Rotterdam?

And since Bayonne seems to be the key, then maybe a flight from Amsterdam to Biarritz, which is practically Bayonne?

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
When You want to take Thalys to Paris you have only reserved seats. And it is cheaper to it in advance.

No, what I said was that I took the train from Rotterdam. The Thalys runs from Amsterdam .

You can fly aswell.

You also can have a look on the following website,
www.Rome2rio.com

Wish you well,Peter.

I flew Amsterdam - Biarritz (via Lyon) then caught a bus to St Jean but this was in 2010 and the train was temporarily out of service. Now most travel from Biarritz to Bayonne by bus then take the train to St. Jean.

Yes, this is what I'm looking into. So the flight lands in Biarritz, then it's bus to Bayonne, then train to St Jean.

Sorry if this sounds dumb, what is the actual name of the bus line and the train line?

Is it better to reserve ahead of time, or buy on the spot, in case of travel delays?

Thanks everyone!

The French train company is SNCF, the bus I have no idea but Biarritz is very close to Bayonne and has frequent departure times.
I suggest you use the search option on the Forum (or Google 'bus Biarritz - Bayonne'). I am sure that there are tons of threads on how to get to St. Jean. Depending on the time of year, train reservation may be recommended.

From Biarritz airport (Anglet) take a Chronoplus bus 14 to the BAYONNE rr station (Gare SNCF).
Travel time is roughly 30 minutes.

At Bayonne station take a regional TER line 62 train to SJPdP.

Generally there are several TER line 62 trains from Bayonne to SJPdP each day.
For current schedule see
https://www.ter.sncf.com/aquitaine
There are NO reserved seats; seating is open as on a tram or metro. The cost to SJPdP from Bayonne is about 10 euros. SJPdP is the last stop; journey time roughly 1 1/2 hours. The TER train also transports bikes.

Bon Voyage and Buen Camino!

Biarritz Airport code is BIQ.

Their website provides information about airline service providers.

There are links to Chronoplus bus and SNCF train.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
