Best Camino walk in February

G'Day All..........I have 3 to 4 weeks spare at the end of Feb. I intended doing Venice to Santiago,or Portugues coastal, I've gone off Venice to Santiago ( yes I know I'm fickle) mainly because I have these images of me turning into Frosty the Snowman on a dog sled(very Un-Australian) I have walked a lot of France,like to walk somewhere else in Europe............any suggestions ?.............which walk would you do in Feb?........thanks for reading this......................Vicrev

We walked SJPP to Santiago in January and February. It was, indeed, extremely cold. But on the plus side - no crowds - we only met a handful of people the whole way, so we felt we owned the camino. And we did feel very tough, to walk it in that extreme weather. We did buy good quality clothing to ensure that we didn't die of exposure.

how about caminho portugues from lisboa to santiago. i am also planning to do it next february via fatima

I like plogaw's idea. The Portugues will be chilly, but it won't do to you in Feb what the Aubrac Plateau might do to you.

Portugues is sounding better all the time & I agree ,the Aubrec is cold that time of year !!! .........thanks for the input......Vicrev

Portugues could be very wet, it was in early march. There was also a lot more Tarmac than I expected, but about half the days were pleasant walking and scenery. I did Oporto to Santiago. Having said that, I loved the places and people, very welcoming.

Have you considered a snow shoe tour of Finnish saunas?

What about starting somewhere along the coast of France on the Arles route - maybe Marseilles? Wherever you start in Feb, it could be wet and cold, I work on the theory that that being close to the sea should have some kind of moderating affect on the climate.

I started from Valencia on Feb 8th 2011 and it was fine. A bit frosty at night but plentiful supply of oranges as you walk. This is a well-marked Camino with a decent supply of albergues or other places to stay. It is likely to be fairly empty but, as everywhere in Spain, you will have a welcome from the locals.
