Time of past OR future Camino
June 2017
Hey all,

My husband and I will be walking from Ponferrada to Santiago in June. It's our first time on the Camino.

We plan to stay in private rooms, small hotels, etc. What is your favorite resource for looking ahead to book the next day's lodging and do you think we need to book more than one day in advanced in June?

I see most towns have a couple of listings on Trip Advisor but I don't know what to expect regarding access to WiFi. I have a guidebook but it was published in 2013.

Thank you.

Carol

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
On this resource, can you explain the difference in Municipal, Association, Parish, Youth Hostel and Xunta. I don't even have a guess for Xunta.

Since you plan to stay in private rooms and hotels most of these will not be of interest to you anyway. "Municipal" means hostel-style dormitory accommodation run by the local town council. "Parish" is similar but church-owned and run. "Association" is essentially the same but run by local volunteer groups. "Xunta" is Gallego for the provincial government - in Galicia most public albergues are run by the Xunta centrally rather than by individual towns or villages. You are unlikely to find private rooms in most of these though they are often available in the many private commercial albergues.

PS. You may find private rooms in some youth hostels but these are mainly dormitory accommodation too and cater primarily for non-pilgrims. Often school groups.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Hi Carol,
Booking.com is also a great online booking site that has photos and various filters to help you find what you're looking for. I would look in your guidebook or on Gronze, earmark the towns you hope to stay in, and then take a look on Booking.com to see what's available.

Whether you book just one night at a time (while you're on the trail) or book everything now is up to you - things are getting busier on the Frances but if you'd rather be flexible and take it a day at a time then just book from the trail. If you'd rather have the peace of mind that comes from knowing that you have a reservation for each night, then book things before you fly over.

Enjoy all the planning and Buen Camino!

Hi CSmith,

Since you are going to Santiago check out "Hotel Montenegro" in the heart of town. Really good place to stay BUT book it in advance. Really clean and they have breakfast included every morning.

Any tips on where to stay in Nagreira and if there is a bus to there from Santiago.Walked this route a few times but because of time i need to be in Nagreira day i arrive and don't wish to walk it,cheers.

I stayed in Hostal La Mezquita, which has dorms and private rooms. I was happy with it.

There are plenty of buses - I don't remember the details, but I checked it at the time as I wasn't sure if I'd be able to walk that particular day.

Thank you,i have walked it 3 times but because i will be travelling a long time to Santiago and have only a few days to Finnistaire i'm happy to bypass.I guess i would take the bus from the main station ?
