Booking accommodation along the Camino Frances

Time of past OR future Camino
FRuture: Camino Sureste (2022)
Dear Forum Members,

I have recently read a number of treads regarding accommodation on the Camino Frances. It seems there is shortage of beds along the way. I have so far followed recommendations and booked most albergues from Leon to Santiago. Is it wise to book also other places even before Leon.

This may not seem to be ideal, as one will be tied with reaching places on specific dates with less flexibility. however booking will put my mind at rest:):).

I would appreciate any feed back form my fellow forum members.

Thanks and Buen Camino,

Ray

I don't think there was a shortage of beds as much as the cheap and mid-range options being taken up fairly early in the afternoon. So booking was a useful strategy earlier in the month when that was happening, particularly if you were a slower walker. I found it wasn't necessary past Najera although there were smaller places like Tosantos that were putting new arrivals into their overflow area on thin mattresses on the floor when I arrived mid-afternoon.

Those who started more recently seem not to have been troubled by this. Since it seems you have not yet started, you might be similarly blessed.

I finished the CF today, starting in SJPDP. Was in Burgos over May Day when a crowd of Europeans took advantage of the 3 day weekend and started their Caminos. Seemed like the number of pilgrims around me doubled. I panicked and reserved Albergues for the first few nights but then relaxed and did no more reservations. Never had a problem getting a bed. The Camino provides! Worst that might happen is a taxi ride for a bed. Not worth worrying about.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi Camino Family,
Am starting my Camino mid-September 2016 and want to make a reservation for my arrival night in San Jean and for my first night in Orrisson. My question is, how far in advance should I make the reservation?
Thank you,
Julie

Oops, I think I put my question in the wrong place. Sorry. Will try to find where to ask new question.

I would suggest that you make the reservations now. The booking for Orrison can take a week or two before you hear anything.

I am on the Camino now, I don't think you need to book. May is busier than June apparently.
