Walking the Camino Frances August 29 2018!!
So I'm starting my walk (French Way) at the end of August 2018. Do I need to book any hostels ahead of time at that time of year?

I walked in late August early September and did not book. I got caught out once when a hostel closed unexpectedly, allegedly because of bed bugs. I took a taxi in the late evening with a couple of other people and found loads of space further on. I suspect that I was in a bulge of pilgrims and the taxi got me ahead of the bulge.

I think the trick is to not walk too late into the afternoon and be flexible and enjoy where you end up. Do have a target but make it attainable.

I was happy to be serendipitous but if you worry you can always book although it can constrain you. If you book and decide to stop earlier please call ahead and cancel the booking, there may be a chancer, like me, who will be pleased to get the bed!

We encountered many challenges getting to St Jean, arriving there at about 2030 local time and were glad to have a reserved room waiting for us at hostel Beilari. Good luck y que la luz de Dios alumbre su camino.

Thank you so much - I think I'll book a room there to get me started. Kate

If you want to split your first day and stop at Orisson you must book ahead. And you might want to consider booking Roncesvalles, since their capacity is less than in the past.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

Hi there - I think I'm going to walk the Volcarlos Way, and I've booked a hostel there, and I've also just booked the hostel at Roncesvalles. After that, hopefully I can find places as I go. Thanks very much for your help. Kate

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
