GNR's 2022 Campaign to Enhance Safety on Caminho Routes North of Porto

A friend of mine just sent a link to a youtube video publicizing the GNR’s (Portuguese National Police) new 2022 effort to enhance safety and add patrols to the caminho routes north of Porto.

I think this shows that the Caminho is becoming more of a recognized entity in the public/government/police‘s mind, not just a distant cousin to the more illustrious route to Fátima.

Some of the footage is a bit silly, but the news is great!

It makes me want to get up and get going just the same. It’s rather painful to be sitting here and to watch it to be honest. Seems like a distant dream under the present circumstances but anyway, I’ve done the CP and I’m surprised that the Gov. thinks that it needs such a heavy police presence and patrolling. I guess there must be many more incidents than we ever hear about. Still, I’d be there in the blink of an eye. I like some of the footage. It evokes a million memories for me and makes me want to weep for the loss of at least these past two years. This year has to be the year and the police patrols are a welcome safety measure.

Thank you for this.
I just walked the portuguese central way from Lisbon without any expectation on being welcome or considered as special as a pilgrim and enjoyed every minute of it.
But it’s true that once crossed the Tui bridge, you really feel that the camino is a big thing in Spain, it’s taken very seriously.
And I must admit it is quite pleasant.
That kind of portuguese government initiative can only make our experience better and hopefuly it is a part of a global plan for a better pilgrim recognition in Portugal.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Wow what stunning vistas with friendly police thrown in. I would love to do the Portuguese Camino.

You and me both and lots of other Aussies and New Zealanders would be there in a blink of an eye. I’m not getting any younger neither !!!

My plan for later this year
Mine too Sue.
Can’t wait forever Ellen, can we.
As the Romans say, Vivamus, Moriendum Est. I’m going this year come what may. And the earlier the better. Wishing the same for you both and all of us down this end.

Edit: As for timing, it’s looking like the CF or … maybe the CP coastal for me, in mid-April, solo this time. Tossing up which one to do for the 2nd time.
