Time of past OR future Camino
Plan to walk Aug-Sept (2013) completed in 26 days yayyyyyyyy
Looking for next Camino
Which would be the best Camino to do.
I completed SJPDP to Santiago de Compostela in Sept 2013.
I cannot settle and want to do another Camino ASAP. :)
I will be attempting this trip solo, so just looking for some guidance as to
the best option for me to look at completing the trip. Doing it in winter will
add a totally new perspective to the Way !!!!

Thanks in advance Yarma

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi Yarma
WE walked SJDPP to Santiago January and Feb. It was very cold, although it was a warm winter, so there was not much snow. We loved having it a solitary experience, we only saw about 6 other pilgrims the whole way. But that is my concern for you, actually, we were a married couple, but to walk it alone as a woman I think might put you at unreasonable risk. Very long stretches of countryside where you would be entirely alone all day, and then the next day, and the next etc. I don't want to be alarmist, and as a feminist I don't think women should be in this position, but Ithink it is a real concern. You just won't find other pilgrims to walk with or to look out for you. I would go when it is a bit busier.

I don't think the danger is being a woman; I think the danger is in the remoteness of many parts. A slip or fall, getting lost in an area far from a road, and being trapped by sudden bad weather are some of the possibilities. A cell phone might be essential equipment. Another possibility that works even in areas where there is no cell service is:

I have one for remote camping in the U.S., and it really works. It connects through a smart phone blue tooth for normal position reporting, but has an SOS button that does not require the phone and reports your GPS position by satellite. The SOS goes to the emergency response folks in the country of your location.

Dress warmly, and bon chemin.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Yikes!!!!!!!!
That is the only time I can go unfortunately, I will think long and hard about my safety though.
Thanks for your insight Maggie

Yarma:

How much time do you have? Are you comfortable on more remote routes?

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Hello Yarma, I think you would have problems with Le Puy route in Feb, Gites not open and prob Snow. I have walked Via de la Plata the last two years in Feb - March, 2012 glorious weather this years rain and rivers flooded. If you were lucky with the weather as I was in 2012 it is a beautiful route, in relation to personal safety anyone can have problems anywhere, but that decision is your call. The more south you go the more likely better weather.
