Mass between Sarria and SdC

Time of past OR future Camino
('14 Nov-Dec Ponferrada-SdC )
Would appreciate knowing where Mass is held between Sarria and Santiago de Compostela. We will be walking the last week of September 2014. I fully understand the inability to predict future patterns --- just want to include as many possible opportunities to attend Mass during our Camino. Thank you!

The Pilgrim Office of the Cathedral of Santiago have this multi language website >>
http://www.peregrinossantiago.es/

On their Preparation page is a useful English discussion regarding Mass on the Camino >> http://peregrinossantiago.es/eng/prepar ... on-camino/. Once on this Preparation page click again to see a Map of all Spanish churches on the Camino which have daily masses.

In Google maps this map will appear in a separate widow entitled Parroquias de los Caminos de Santiago. Included are parishes in Galicia located on the Camino Portugues. The map lists opening times for the churches and gives the current mass times as of 2012. You can copy the map as a KML file to then add to your own set of Google maps for further reference while walking. Or you can click print to make a continuous flat copy with a wealth of reference data.

Buen Camino,

Margaret Meredith

Thank you Margaret. It looks as though these options were last updated in April 2010 do you think these are still current?

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
They're not likely to be much different-- ask when you get to the village. Signing for services in the dioceses of Lugo and Santiago de Compostela seemed to be greatly improved when I was in Galicia last October over previous years. Between Sarria and Santiago, you are almost certainly going to be able to attend services pretty well every evening.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Portomarin does a daily mass at 8 pm if I am not mistaken, Palas de Rei has a nice Saturday evening one at about the same time, melide's masses are either at the main church in town or at the one up on the hill near cemetery (the main church has mass times for both places posted inside). Sunday mass in the morning is anywhere with a large enough population.

Thank you Jeffery. The map of potential churches is wonderful to have. But given the fragile supply of priests everywhere, recent experience from the boots (or sandals) on the ground is really appreciated. Thank you! :) m

On Camino Frances in Pals de Rei now -I think it is harder to attend mass than many think.
Pilgrims mass is usually at 8 pm- late fir me but I often attend and sometimes there are only 10 pilgrims there and locals.

Small towns don't have nightime mass often. The convent and monastery albergues do; you can attend even if you don't stay.

My advice- So ask as soon as you arrive and attend when you can but pray without Mass otherwise.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I think there is also a daily evening mass in Tricastela. Anne

I wondered about this and appreciate you comments. Agree on prayer...it is fundamental to my Camino. Very much looking forward to this.

For Christians (other than Catholic), search the forum for previous discussions about communion along the camino. At least partly as a result of the Franco regime, Protestant churches along the camino are few if not absent. These previous discussions include circumstances in which Protestants may receive communion/Eucharist along the camino, and in Santiago.
