We are staying at the alberque in Roncesvalles in May. Is it a good plan to eat the dinner and breakfast there or dinner at one of the other places in Roncesvalles and breakfast a few kms away from Roncesvalles? Just looking for other people's experiences. TIA!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
The albergue in Roncesvalles has a kitchen for pilgrim use but does not offer meals. However upon arrival you can buy at the albergue a ticket for a simple pilgrim dinner and/or breakfast in a nearby Roncesvalles hotel.

In nearby Burguete there is only one church, next to it is a small plaza and at the back of the plaza a GREAT cafe/bar which is open early every morning and very pilgrim friendly. Within their complex is the local fronton court. I have always stopped here on my way down from Roncesvalles. If is still dark as you leave Roncesvalles be sure to wear or carry your head torch.

Hey, MSPath,

Has that restaurant in Burguete been open when you've walked in winter?

Thanks,

Jeff

You can buy a ticket for dinner at one of the two restaurants there. I enjoyed my dinner there, not so much for the food as the camaraderie with the other pilgrims. I also bought a breakfast ticket, which was disappointing. It would have been better to walk on to Burguete or Espinal for breakfast.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I had the pilgrim dinner in the basement of La Posada...buy tickets in advance...buffet breakfast at Rural Hotel Roncesvalles...and for a snack...a beer and omelette sandwich at the La Posada outdoor café.

Has that restaurant in Burguete been open when you've walked in winter?

It was closed in the evening when I stayed in Burguete one Friday night in mid-October.

I walked Camino France twice, latest one last year. I ate at restaurant and bar Casa Sabina both times and they have very good foods. You have to make reservation for dinner. Right after you check in to albergue walk to the restaurant and make reservation. While you are there you can taste Tortilla Espana, Spanish Omelet, very delicious. The other place you can eat in La Posada, the other place many people eat.
Breakfast next morning, you can eat at Burgette or further away. About an hour walk you will find new bar where you can have good breakfast. You can not miss.
Burn Camino.

Thanks, Jill. One of the disadvantages of a winter Camino, I suppose.

I ate in Roncesvalles, worst food I had the entire Camino. I am planning on walking again this fall and I am going to walk past Roncesvalles this time to the next town.

We ate at Casa Sabina in Roncesvalles last night, and it was a great meal. They were also happy to cater to vegetarians. It was warm and inviting, considering the snow outside :) (Please excuse the poor photo quality)
