Ourense thermal baths closed again

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
That's a pity. I wonder when/if the As Burgas thermal pool in the centre of town will reopen. Almost next door to the Xunta albergue and seriously hot. That would be a real luxury!

Seems to be covid related, at least in part. The article says that the new regulatory norms require a continual recirculation of the water. That means, apparently, that only two spots in Burgas and one in Outariz can be in operation because of water flow issues. But as the article points out, there were more open during Semana Santa when crowds were greater. There’s another explanation offered in the article by angry citizens, and that is that the mayor hates the thermal baths and always wants to closae them. So it kind of seems like a complicated multi-factor mess.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

"The article says that the new regulatory norms require a continual recirculation of the water" That sounds to me like drought related issues.

I enjoyed the baths again in July (2023). This year it was the first public ones you encounter on the hot springs trail. The other two times it was the private spa at Outariz. It appeared both this year and last that new infrastructure (namely pipes) are being added or improved to maintain the flow of water. Also public washrooms. There is now an attendant who will not let you into a pool unless you have taken a shower and are not barefoot and dragging dust and gravel into the pools. to me in seems like upgrading--not closing for good.
